Hong Kong Cup 2010 Field & Form Preview

December 9th, 2010

This Sunday, December the 12th, the 2010 Hong Kong Cup will take place at the iconic Sha Tin Racecourse as part of the elite racing action of the annual Hong Kong International Race Day.

The richest race of its kind in the world, the HK$20 million Group 1 Hong Kong Cup (2000m) has drawn a final field of 13 horses lead by defending champion Vision D’Etat.

Irian looks a good value pick to win the 2010 Hong Kong Cup having taken out the Jockey Club Cup last start so back them at a better price than the TAB through Luxbet today!

Champion French stayer Vision D’Etat is a classy five-year-old back to attempt successive wins in the Hong Kong Cup, the Eric Libaud-trained galloper coming off a gallant second place finish in the G1 Champion Stakes (2010m) and likely to be retired to stud after Sunday’s showdown.

The shortest priced entry in the online betting markets, Vision D’Etat will start the favourite but there are a number of other top chances in the 2010 Hong Kong Cup field and history shows that the favourites have only a 26% winning rate in the Hong Kong Cup.

Impressive British filly Snow Fairy is the close second elect in the Hong Kong Cup odds, Edward Dunlop’s dual Oaks winner fresh off a comprehensive victory in the G1 Queen Elizabeth II Commemorative Cup in Japan at Kyoto Racecourse.

Snow Fairy is also the lightest waited entry in the Hong Kong Cup this year, giving her a nice advantage.

Other runners at single figure odds in the Hong Kong Cup betting markets are Collection, Planteur and Stacelita.

The John Moore-trained Collection is the favourite of the local Hong Kong runners for Sunday, the Peintre Celebre gelding having won the Group 1 Hong Kong Gold Cup (2000m) back in February and runner-up to Vision D’Etat in the Hong Kong Cup 12 months ago.

Planteur is another French galloper gaining attention from the punters as is the Jean-Claude Rouget-trained filly Stacelita, a four time Group 1 winner.

A good value pick is Irian, another local trained by John Moore that won the Group 2 Jockey Club Cup (2000m) here on November 14, which is considered the traditional lead-up race to the Hong Kong Cup.

The 2010 Cathay Pacific Airways Hong Kong Cup will run as Race 8 at Sha Tin on Sunday, jumping at 4:30pm (local time).
