Alcopop In Top Form Ahead Of 2012 Hong Kong Cup

December 5th, 2012

Alcopop will have his first international test when he lines up for the Group 1 Hong Kong Cup this Sunday December 9, 2012.

The eight-year-old arrived earlier than the majority of the other runners to Sha Tin Racecourse and trainer Jake Stephens believes that decision may well make all the difference on race day.

“It’s been good having arrived early,” Stephens said.

“It’s been good to have that extra week.

“He’s acclimatized well and looks good going right so fingers crossed he’s going to put in a good showing on the day.”

Sha Tin Racecourse will likely be run as a fast to good surface this Sunday, and Stephens is confident that will suit Alcopop.

“It’s going to probably suit our horse the surface,” he said.

“He like that fast surface, he’s got that turn of foot.

“He’s run a couple of sub 11 second furlongs.”

The trainer feels Alcopop is in with a real winning chance in the 2012 Hong Kong Cup.

“Obviously it’s a bloody tough race,” he said.

“He’s not without a chance I don’t think, it’s tough.

“He’s looking good.”

The team are hoping Alcopop can draw an inside gate for the race, however, are not relying on the fact.

“It would be nice to sort of draw a reasonable gate,” Stephens said.

“But he doesn’t have that much barrier speed anyway.”
